Link……meet Link.

the minimalistic face rig they have for this version of Link is so fantastic. I wish I knew what they did so I could do it too, look at that expressiveness, it’s something I don’t think I’ve seen in a Zelda game before!! It’s almost Disney-like. I think the SS Link is the best looking, best animated, best designed Link so far. Until now he’s been so generalized and so animu that it was really hard to ever get any sort of unique look to him, but his face is so
I think the eyes they are using are just curved planes/hemispheres with a texture with some sort of aim constraint, it’s obvious his eyes don’t change size or anything, just the pupil. I wish someone could just… rip the rig from an emulator so we could play with it. I really want to know how everything was rigged or at least the topology or something because face rigs for animation usually differ a whole lot, the western 3D animated films all use a similar face topology that has their characters looking like talking dummies which makes those signature “Pixar mouths/cheeks” that everyone has such as these Meet the Robinsons face rigs that I fucking can’t stand. Then look at something like Sintel, which has a circular, more realistic topology that is a lot like the muscles in our face, and has a fantastic huge range of motion that’s really natural looking.
I fucking can’t stand rigging but I want to try this just to see if I can do it or not. It’d make for really awesome minimalistic eyes. I seriously don’t think Link’s eyes are actually spheres… either way, cool.

Well you can download the models from here: http://www.spriters-resource.com/community/showthread.php?tid=18852
They said the .dae and .smd files are rigged. Haven’t tested it out but Nubs is downloading Valves Source SDK to try out the files. If you peruse the forum they have a lot of models ripped from videogames. It’s neat!
